Issue 24                                                                                                      September/October 2001

I hope you’ve all had a fantastic summer. I’ve really enjoyed myself, doing yoga in Crete, then 4 days in Paris. My sister, Judith, came to stay with me for 5 days with her two beautiful daughters, Emily and Alice. We had an excellent time in Thorpe park and on Brighton Pier. Anyone heard of the ride “Tidal Wave”? Emily convinced me to go on this ride and we got absolutely drenched!

Then my friend, Dianne, who lives in the Cayman Islands, came to stay for 4 days and we saw a play in the West End.

I keep my energy levels high for all this activity by eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and taking a daily glass of SynerProtein together with the multi vitamin- Mega Chel.

If you have been to lots of barbecues or drank just a little bit too much alcohol on holiday, then you may want to consider cleansing your system with a Chinese Tiao He Cleanse. This product is designed to support the cleansing mechanisms of the body by targeting the intestinal, digestive and circulatory systems. Cleansing the body is a critical step in natural healing as it helps to eliminate the built up waste material in your system.

It is recommended that this cleanse is taken at least twice a year, especially during seasonal changes such as Spring and Autumn. Dr Mary Staggs (the renowned homeopath) recommends that one packet be taken every day to ensure that the colon and large intestine is kept clean.

This adult cleanse is so gentle that you won’t have to take time off from work or feel tense about leaving the house while you are on this 10-day programme. Some people who previously suffered with chronic constipation have reported that this problem permanently disappeared after taking the 10-day Chinese Cleanse. Anyone can take this cleanse and I’ve just ordered mine for my Autumn “Spring Clean”. It not only gives you more energy but you also lose a few pounds in weight as the cleanse gently removes any built-up faecal matter. If you would like a fact sheet on this product just give me a call and I’ll send you the information.

THE TOXIC ATTACK UPON THE BODY

There are many different kinds of toxins that afflict the human body on a daily basis. Some of the more common ones are solvents such as paint and paint-strippers, cleaning detergents; tobacco smoke; pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, chemical fertilisers; food additives; cosmetics (some contain formaldehyde); medical drugs and illegal drugs; aluminium cookware; un-filtered tap water; hormones and antibiotics given to farm animals which are then present in our milk and meat.

The toxins that enter our bodies from food and water are very significant and it is important to make every effort to try and reduce the toxic intake on a daily basis. Organically grown food is, at present, more expensive than food grown with the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Even if you buy some organic fruit and vegetables it will reduce your overall toxic intake.

If you can afford to fit a filtration system called “Reverse Osmosis” for clean drinking and cooking water (it costs about £700) this will reduce your intake of chlorine, heavy metals, fluoride, pesticides, aluminium and the recycled oestrogen from the contraceptive pill and HRT. Bottled mineral water is the next best option but look for the “dry residue” content. The best ones are about 109 dry residue, such as Volvic.

Toxins are also known as “Free Radicals” which are very reactive chemicals. Free radical damage is a form of oxidation and can be compared to the formation of rust on metal. It has been estimated that in every breath, we can breathe in close to one billion free radicals. These free radicals attack every cell in our bodies causing major health problems. It has now been established that more than 60 human diseases involve free radical damage, including cancer, heart disease and acceleration of the ageing process.

Don’t despair, because there are the good guys called “antioxidants” which provide protection against the damaging effects of free radicals.

Nature’s Sunshine offers a choice of antioxidants.

QUALITY OF SUPPLEMENTS –                ARE YOU THROWING YOUR MONEY AWAY?

Before being introduced to Nature’s Sunshine Products I bought my multi vitamin and mineral supplements from High Street Health Shops. I can honestly say that I never felt any different when I took the High Street products but I still continued believing they were of some benefit. I always remember looking at the different products on the shelves wondering which one to buy and leaving it all to guess work.

All supplements are not the same. If you are going to take a nutritional supplement, there should be enough of the active ingredient for a noticeable effect. Some companies include inadequate amounts in their products. A good example of this is when a product contains magnesium orotate. The bottle will claim that each tablet contains 150mg of magnesium orotate whereas each tablet will contain 5% magnesium and 95% orotate.

Also many companies will use calcium carbonate in their products, which is the cheapest form of calcium.

Nature’s Sunshine has some very powerful products, which really make a difference to the way you feel, giving you more energy and a sense of well-being. So many people have commented on how much better they feel when they start taking Mega Chel. I take Mega Chel as my daily multi vitamin and mineral as it contains herbs and nutrients, which improve the circulation. It is recommended that everyone over 40 take this as their multi vitamin as poor circulation can lead to various health problems, as we get older.

The Super Antioxidant is a superb product containing tocotrienols (a powerful form of vitamin E), milk thistle which strengthens the liver and is recommended for anyone who drinks alcohol, lycopene which is known to help prevent prostate problems to name just a few ingredients.

Another example of why Nature’s Sunshine products are superior is their vitamin B-Complex. The full range of B vitamins are in the SynerPro Concentrate base of broccoli, carrot, red beet, rosemary, tomato, turmeric, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, grapefruit and orange bioflavonoids and hesperidin.

In addition to the multi vitamins and antioxidants etc, Nature’s Sunshine also has a unique range of herbal formulations. The herbal supplements contain only the very best quality ingredients and are non addictive. Nature’s Sunshine Products are very proud of their “100% Pure” philosophy, which they apply to every aspect of their business. All their raw materials are meticulously tested for optimum purity and strength. 150 tests are carried out on each batch of herbs delivered to the factory and include tests for E.coli, salmonella, radiation, bacteria to name just a few. If anything is detected then the whole batch is rejected.

The products are formulated by a dedicated research team comprised of expert botanists, biologists, food scientists and pharmacognisists (people who study the beneficial properties of plants) to offer the most pure and potent supplements available.

TOXIC-FREE SKIN CARE

I mentioned earlier that cosmetics might be a source of toxins in your body. If you consider that nicotine patches are used for people to try and give up smoking and some women use the HRT patch, then it is obvious that chemicals can be absorbed through the skin.

Many skin care products and cosmetics contain chemicals. The regulations applying to the formulation of cosmetics and skin care are by no means so strict as those applying to the formulation of food products. Although the colours used in cosmetics are controlled in ways somewhat similar to food colorants, there is still much scope for compounds to be used that have not had to pass serious safety standards. It is always advisable to use products that contain only natural ingredients and not to be swayed by the promises of beauty claims by the big glamorous companies.

Nature’s Sunshine has a wonderful range of skin care products. My skin has improved considerably since using these products.

I always wash my face using the Botanicals Cleanser, which is then followed by the Toner. In the morning I use the Skin Renewal Complex, which is a light gel that promotes exfoliation. This contains a unique combination of fruit extracts, herbs and other natural ingredients. This is followed by the light daily moisturiser, which provides SPF 15 UVA/UVB protection to guard against the sun’s rays. At night I use the Antioxidant Repair Crème, which contains an excellent range of antioxidants and rich emollients to moisturise and nourish the skin.

Nature’s Sunshine has a superb range of cosmetics to complement the skin care products. A magnetic compact is available for only £5.99, which allows you to customise your eye shadow and blusher range. They have an extensive range of eye shadows, lipsticks, blushers, foundations, mascaras, bronzers etc. A separate cosmetic and skin care brochure is available from Nature’s Sunshine on request. You can also sample these products at any of the National Meetings at the beauty stand.

These products are dermatologically tested, free from artificial fragrances and colours and not tested on animals.
