Nature’s Sunshine
Newsletter

Issue  39

July/August 2003

I’ve recently returned from my annual holiday at Yoga Plus in Southern Crete. I had two wonderful weeks of yoga, pilates and meditation and many lazy afternoons reading on the beach. Two weeks is just not enough and I’m sitting here wanting to go back to my favourite island.

Nature’s Sunshine’s workshops on Sunday 22 June were very successful. Colleen Zade gave us a demonstration of an aromatherapy party using Nature’s Sunshine’s potent organic essential oils. Colleen gave us a good tip for using the Tei Fu essential oil. This oil is already in a carrier oil and if you hold the bottle upside down and tap the bottom, the oil comes out quite easily. You can use it on the back of the neck to create deep heat and so relieve tension. Put it on your forehead to relieve headaches and migraines or breathe it in to alleviate stuffiness in the nose. Putting a drop of oil just below the nose will help prevent airsickness and carsickness.

Peter Klein, the herbalist, talked about allergies and how the Para Cleanse often helped to alleviate symptoms by cleansing the colon. Nature’s Sunshine also has homeopathic remedies available on the monthly US special for hay fever and allergies to mould and dust. There is also a natural antihistamine called Histablock.

The third workshop I attended was a series of presentations by various therapists who use Nature’s Sunshine Products to enhance their treatments. They all considered the Lifestyle Analysis Form to be invaluable as they were able to identify the root of any health problem very quickly. The products then accelerate the effectiveness of the therapists’ treatment.

A chiropodist told us that the pharmaceutical product he had been using to treat fungal nails had been found to cause liver damage and had been linked to 19 deaths in the US. He now successfully uses Pau D’Arco and Tea Tree Oil to clear any fungal infections. Another good tip was that Ginkgo and Hawthorn is excellent for chilblain sufferers as it improves the circulation.

NATIONAL MEETING

The annual national meeting will be held at the Moat House Hotel in Stratford on Sunday 14 September. A special speaker is coming over from the US to talk about cell regeneration. This is a very exciting subject because cell death is the cause of many diseases and of course the aging process. It is free to attend but you need to book your place as demand for tickets to hear this speaker will be high. There will be an initial charge of £5 but you will receive a £5 product voucher on the day. To book your place, ring Sarah at NSP on 01952 671600.

MEETING AT CHELSFIELD GOLF CLUB

We will be holding our next local health event on Tuesday 29 July from 7.30pm until 9pm. Various speakers will be talking on different aspects of health. If you want more information, just give me a call on 01689 856581 or send me an email.

NEW CATALOGUE

Nature’s Sunshine has produced a new 80-page A4 catalogue incorporating all the Herbal products, Children’s Product Range, Vitamins, Minerals, the Natria Skin and Hair care products together with the essential oils. The new catalogue will be available at the end of July and I already have mine on order! The catalogue will also contain information on detoxing, how to use the Lifestyle Analysis and it will have all the Herb Specialist flow charts to enable you to easily identify which product to use or recommend.

PH BALANCING

Our society is plagued with a torrent of health concerns. Many herbalists and nutritionists now believe the explanation for this may come down to two small words.

Acid & Alkaline

An imbalance in the body’s pH can affect all major body systems. The body has an acid-alkaline ratio called the pH and when this balance is compromised many problems can occur. This is not about stomach acid or the pH of the stomach. This is about the pH of the body’s fluids and tissues, which is an entirely different matter.

Most people who have an unbalanced pH are acidic. This condition forces the body to borrow minerals; including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium from vital organs and bones to neutralise the acid.

An imbalance in the body’s pH may lead to serious health problems such as:

·        Hormone concerns

·        Cardiovascular weakness

·        Weight gain, obesity and diabetes

·        Bladder and kidney concerns/kidney stones

·        Premature aging

·        Immune deficiency

·        Acceleration of free radical damage

·        Brittle bones, hip fractures, joint discomfort, bone spurs

·        Stressed liver function

·        Low energy and chronic fatigue

·        Slow digestion and elimination

·        Yeast/fungal overgrowth

Test Your Acidity or Alkalinity with NSP pH Strips

Balanced pH readings in urine and saliva mean a balanced body. It is important for you to test your pH level to determine if your body’s pH needs addressing.

By using Nature’s Sunshine pH test strips you can determine your pH factor quickly and easily in the privacy of your own home. Ask for a pack of these test strips next time you place an order. Full instructions come with the test strips.

ACID FORMING FOODS

We should be eating 80% alkaline foods and 20% acid foods for perfect pH balance. Most people eat too much of the acid forming foods such as meat, shellfish, dairy products, bread, pasta, pastries, white rice, coffee, soft drinks and sugar.

HOW TO MAINTAIN A BALANCED Ph

1.      ENZYMES – without enzymes, the body cannot maintain a balanced pH.

Proactazyme is a general-purpose enzyme supplement from plant sources. It helps the body digest all food types and helps break down difficult to digest foods. Stock no 1643.

Food Enzymes are necessary for proper digestion and support correct mineral utilisation (especially calcium). Stock no 1836.

2.      CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM

These are two of the most important minerals in maintaining pH balance. Bones are affected by pH perhaps more than any other part of the body.

SKL Formula provides nutrients including calcium and magnesium that are needed to manufacture bones. This formula contains a very absorbable form of both calcium and magnesium. Stock no 1806.

3.      MINERALS

Alkaline minerals are essential to a balanced pH.

Colloidal minerals (stock no 4037) and Chinese Mineral Chi Tonic (stock no 1818) provide an array of essential trace minerals. Take 1oz of either on a daily basis.

Liquid chlorophyll (stock no 1683) offers excellent body cleansing support while providing vital minerals from green alfalfa plants that are easily assimilated by the human body. I always have a teaspoon of chlorophyll in warm water with lemon juice first thing every morning.

4.      CLEANSE THE BODY

Take two or more capsules each of LBSII (stock no 990) and Psyllium Hulls (stock no 545) at bedtime to maintain regular bowel movements. Use the Chinese Tiao He Cleanse at least twice a year. Stock no 4000.

5.      DIET

Eat a balanced diet of 80% alkaline-forming foods and 20% acid-forming foods.

Some Alkaline foods

Fruit and vegetables but not cranberries, rhubarb, blueberries or potatoes.

Maple syrup, almonds, olive oil, goat milk and goat cheese, wild rice, quinoa, millet, green tea and herb teas. A full list of alkaline and acid foods is available on request.

To order any of the products ring the NSP order hot line on 08458 40 50 60.
