Nature’s Sunshine
Winter 2003 Newsletter

Issue  33                                                                                            January 2003

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends and a well-deserved break from your normal busy routine. It's hard to believe we're now in 2003. It doesn't seem that long ago we were building up for the Millennium. I've had a fairly peaceful time catching up on my reading and
practising my yoga postures.

I attended quite a few seminars this past year, with Peter Klein as the main speaker. Peter Klein is a highly accomplished herbalist and Naturopath with over 20 years’ experience in clinical practice. Peter not only gives very informative and highly enjoyable talks but is also employed by Nature's Sunshine as a consultant. Peter is available on 01694 781503 every Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 1pm to help with any health queries you might have concerning yourself, your family, friends and clients. I ring Peter regularly and he always gives me sound advice. I have been reading some of the notes I took at Peter's seminars and I thought I would share some of his advice with you in this Newsletter. Wishing you good health and wealth for 2003.

LIFESTYLE ANALYSIS

Peter Klein mentioned at one of his seminars about the importance of completing a Lifestyle Analysis every three or six months to keep a check on whether you are making a steady progress in improving your overall health. Peter advises that if your scores are at the bottom of the graph your vital force is low and you are ‘just bumping along’ in life. He emphasised the need for a Chinese Tiao He Cleanse because the body is clearly bunged up, followed by good nutrition and supplements to boost the lowest systems. Peter also pointed out the need to take enough of a certain product and for long enough. Too many people start a herbal programme expecting results within days or weeks. We tend to expect miracle cures and become disappointed and stop taking the product recommended for our weakest body system. We need to be aware of people's varying size and weight and it makes sense that a 17-stone person will need a higher dosage than a 9-stone person. You may, of course, start to feel better quickly but you need to continue the programme as the herbs and nutrients need to get deeper into your tissues and cells and so start the healing process.

   PRIVATE HEALTH CONSULTATION
If you would like me to prepare a personal health programme for you for 2003, for a nominal fee of just £10, call me on 01689 856581 to book an appointment. We will start by completing a Lifestyle Analysis as the first step, followed by an in-depth review of your weakest system. You will then be given a personal health programme to follow, which will include nutritional advice, any necessary supplements and possibly some lifestyle changes. Don't miss out on this opportunity to improve your health and start feeling better for the New Year.

DETOX – A NEW YOU IN 2003!
Are you feeling bloated, full and sluggish? Have you piled on the pounds by eating lots of chocolates, Christmas cake and mince pies? This is one of the best times of the year to detox and shed some of those unwanted pounds.

VITAMIN AND MINERAL SUPPLEMENTS –

WHY WE NEED THEM…

I recently received the December issue of the monthly publication What Doctors Don't Tell You, which covered this subject in great detail. Here are some of the main points:

As far back as 1936, a US Senate report stated that American farms were depleted of minerals and so, therefore, was the food. The implications of their report were staggering. It meant that some 99% of the public were deficient in a vast array of minerals. Even at that time it was recommended that the diets of farm animals and people should be supplemented with minerals. Unfortunately, since that time, the overall problem has worsened. Consequently, most ‘food’ that arrives on our tables contains very few vitamins and minerals essential to human health.’

Here are some examples of the mineral losses in our food:
carrots - 75% less magnesium, 48% less calcium, 46% less iron and 75% less copper
broccoli - 75% less calcium
spring onion - 74% less calcium
spinach - 60% less iron and 96% less copper
swede - 71% less iron
watercress - 93% less copper
potatoes - 30% less magnesium, 35% less calcium, 45% less iron and 47% less copper
all meats - 41% less calcium and 54% less iron
all fruits - 27% less zinc
apples and oranges - 67% less iron.
Minerals are not the only nutrients missing, as evidence suggests that the vitamin content of fruits, vegetables and grains has also seriously declined over the last fifty years. A cauliflower has 50% less vitamin C. The vitamin content of peppers has plummeted from
128mg to 89mg, and vitamin A in apples has dropped from 90mg to 53mg. To read the whole article you can subscribe to WDDTY on 0870 444 9886 or visit their web site at www.wddty.co.uk. I could also provide you with a copy if you send me a stamped addressed envelope.

We all need to look after our health and to make positive decisions on what we eat. I wouldn't dream of not taking a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement every day. As you know from previous Newsletters, I only take Nature's Sunshine Products because of the high quality control ensuring all the products are free from pesticides, herbicides, bacteria, mould, heavy metals, salmonella, ecoli etc. The vitamins and minerals are food based and not from synthetic sources. This ensures the body absorbs the nutrients more effectively. Nature's Sunshine provides a choice of multi-vitamins and minerals to suit everyone’s needs. To find out which one is suitable for you and your family, give me a call on 01689 856581.

An easy and effective way to detox your body is by taking the Chinese Tiao He Cleanse (£16.78). This is a 10-day detox programme designed to absorb toxins from the bowel, improve elimination, detoxify the kidneys and liver, purify the blood and cleanse the entire body of cellular wastes. This cleanse is highly recommended for anyone beginning a herbal supplement programme or starting a weight management plan or just as a maintenance ‘spring clean’. I have a 30-minute cassette tape explaining why a cleanse is so important. They are available from me or from Nature's Sunshine at £1 each. It's well worth listening to this tape as it explains how you would benefit from cleansing your system if you suffer from allergies, arthritis, asthma, constipation, depression, fatigue, headaches, high blood pressure, indigestion, insomnia, nervousness, obesity, prostate problems, sinus congestion, skin problems or varicose veins. Do not take this cleanse if you are pregnant, are under sixteen or have abdominal pain or inflammation.

To detox children if they are constipated, (and many are) give them a small amount of LB Extract (£7.40) and Licorice Root Extract (£6.83). LB Extract is a liquid herbal laxative formula ideal for children or adults who are unable to swallow capsules or tablets. If you have abdominal pain, try the Liquid Chlorophyll (£7.40), Aloe Vera Juice (£12.04) and LoClo (£12.19).
