March 2000

Last month I celebrated a very special birthday – my fortieth. But rather than being depressed about it, I decided to look ahead positively. After all, life begins at forty, or so they say. A few people have actually said, ‘You look more like thirty-five – it must be those supplements you’re taking!’ Well, they could be right, so I’m going to keep on doing just that.

Another saying is, ‘old age doesn’t come on its own’, but that isn’t necessarily true. There are many nutrients we can include in our diets to prevent us having degenerative diseases such as arthritis and heart disease. These nutrients are called antioxidants. Since giving my Nature’s Sunshine talks at various homes I’ve discovered that lots of people have never heard of antioxidants and the benefits of taking them. That’s why I’ve included some useful information on antioxidants and their enemies, free radicals. I’m in no doubt whatsoever that everyone should be taking them!

You’ll notice that I have enclosed your very own Nature’s Sunshine card which tells you your account number, the Order Hot Line number, and Peter Klein’s number should you wish to call him to discuss any health problems you may have. You can now keep it handy in your purse or wallet and you’ll never again have to search for your account number! And if you don’t have a Product Guide and Price List, then either call me or my sister (Lynne Gully ) and we’ll send you them right away so that you can continue to benefit from the 30% discount prices on all the products!

Colloidal Minerals –
How to improve your quality of life
.

We tend to focus on the need for vitamins as supplements, but we mustn’t forget that minerals are just as important to achieve optimum health.

The soil, and therefore the vegetables that are grown in the soil, is depleted of nutrients including many essential minerals. There are two types of minerals – macro and trace. I’ll try not to get too technical, but we need larger amounts of macro minerals (calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and phosphorus) than trace minerals which are only required in minute amounts. They include boron, chromium, copper, iodine, iron, manganese, selenium and zinc, to name just a few. To get the full benefit of trace minerals they need to be in a form that is easily absorbed into the bloodstream.

That’s the beauty of colloidal minerals. They are tiny particles of various minerals – 63 in all – that are suspended in liquid obtained naturally, using purified water, from ancient plant deposits that are over a million years old. Macro minerals are too heavy for colloidal preparation. That’s why you also need a mineral supplement in tablet form e.g. Super Supplemental, Calcium Magnesium and Mega Chel. The recommended daily serving of colloidal minerals ensures you get the exact amount you need in a form the body can easily assimilate. Your quality of life should improve if you take measures to correct potential mineral deficiencies and imbalances. I’ve started taking Colloidal Minerals – it has a great-tasting lemon-lime flavour! – with Super Supplementals every day. Why don’t you give them a try?

This is what Dr Segelman has to say: ‘A very practical question we get asked all the time is “How does one know how much of these trace minerals to take?” I say this! You have to have confidence in the integrity of the manufacturer. It is a very important concept. Whatever product you take you have to believe in the company and you have to believe in the in-house expertise. Here at NSP we are at the cutting edge of nutrition.’

Your Letters

Many thanks for your letters and testimonials! Here are just two of them, but please keep sending them to me together with any questions or comments you may have.

Almost two years ago my husband had a health scare which prompted me into researching our need for antioxidants. I was shocked to discover that our food is severely lacking in vitamins and minerals because the land has become depleted of these essential nutrients. I also learned the importance of taking antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, selenium, beta-carotene and zinc to fight off free radical damage that our bodies are subjected to on a daily basis.

I was then introduced to Nature’s Sunshine Products, a company that promotes the importance of antioxidants and understands all about nutrition. NSP has also introduced another antioxidant called Grapine with Protectors which is derived from pine bark and grape seed. I have read more and more about the power of this antioxidant in various health magazines and I now take it regularly.

Obviously the cost of these natural products has to be considered but I would rather take slightly less of a Nature’s Sunshine product than one of the High Street brands which I believe are made from chemicals allowing only 10% to be absorbed into the body.

I also use the complete range of Nature’s Sunshine skin care and make-up as they contain vitamins and no chemicals. My daughter has also started to use them and absolutely loves the products. My mother called into my house one day and tried a glass of SynerProtein. She now takes it every day as it has given her more energy. We all love the products and it’s so easy to place an order. The products are delivered within 48 hours and there’s no hassle of going out to the shops!

I’m an habitual tea and coffee drinker, so every so often my system gets full to the brim with caffeine, tannin and toxins, which is potentially very harmful. I’m about to embark on a detox programme but hate the idea of giving up tea and coffee. But now I’ve discovered Nature’s Sunshine Herbal Beverage. It’s made from roasted cereals and is naturally caffeine-free. But most importantly, it tastes really good!

Why Do We Need Antioxidants?

Every day there is something happening to your body. Your cells are being damaged by free radicals, highly dangerous charged particles that are produced by chemical pollution (including smoking and passive smoking) but, more importantly, through normal body processes. When you exercise more free radicals are produced. You can’t see them, you can’t feel them. Yet the damage they are causing is progressive and cumulative, leading to degenerative diseases like arthritis, cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s.

Prevention is Better than Cure.

Studies have been carried out since 1959 on free-radical damage and it has been proven that antioxidants can actually destroy them. The known nutrients – vitamins A, C and E, beta-carotene and selenium – are the essential antioxidants capable of disarming free radicals. Grapine, the most powerful antioxidant of them all, is fifty times stronger than vitamin E and twenty times more powerful than vitamin C.

Nature’s Sunshine has the answer to this problem. They have come up with a handy 28-day supply of all the antioxidants, including Grapine. Each day’s supply of the Antioxidant Arsenal is contained in a separate pack so you don’t even have to buy each antioxidant separately. It costs £21.33 – a small price to pay for your health!

And for a limited period only, Nature’s Sunshine is offering the Essential Protectors for just £40that’s a saving of £6! The Essential Protectors Pack contains one Antioxidant Arsenal, one Multiple Vits-Mins, two SynerProteins and a plastic shaker. (Bought separately, these would come to a total of £50.13). And if you’d like to receive one of these every month without even having to lift up the telephone, then you can request an Autoship Form and your Essential Protectors Pack will be sent to you automatically. If you do this in March you will be able to purchase the Essential Protectors Pack at the special price of £40 for the next twelve months, saving you £72 for the year!
