June 2000

For the past nine months my sister, Judith, has produced this Newsletter, which I have circulated to everyone I know who is interested in Natural products. I have now decided to write my own introduction but the rest of the content has been written by my talented sister!

I’ve had a very busy month starting with our trip to Monte Carlo, which you can all read about in the next edition of Horizons. I qualified for two tickets thanks to Judith’s hard work in January, February and March so I thought I’d better take her along. We had an excellent time and if anyone is interested in finding out how to qualify for these trips you can contact me on 01689 856581.

I then gave five talks in two weeks, three of which were at the local schools and two at friends’ houses. If anyone would like me to give a talk on natural health and beauty at their home just contact me to arrange a date and I’ll be there.

You should have received details on the workshops taking place on Sunday 25 June. You can choose from a range of subjects including Aromatherapy, Product Training, Business Training or one suitable for therapists. I went to a similar event last June and it was excellent. I’m not able to go this year as I’ll be on holiday but if you’re interested be sure to book your place by returning your form and indicating your choice of workshops. For more information either call me or NSP directly on 01952 671600.

Suntan Cream Now Available.

Those of you who’ve known me for years will have realised what a sun-worshipper I’ve been. I’d lie in the sun for a whole day and start to panic if I saw clouds approaching. Three sun beds per week was normal just before a holiday abroad – just to prepare my skin, of course – and I’d always cross to the sunny side of the street. This is no exaggeration. But this is all in the past. I have come to realise in the last year or so that the sun is extremely damaging to the skin. And when I’m fifty, I want to look fifty (or younger!) and not some prematurely wrinkled woman. So, this obsession with the sun has now gone and I make sure I use quite a high protection factor cream – like NSP’s natural Suntan Cream! It has a pleasant fragrance, rubs in easily and despite having an SPF of 25 you still get a tan. At £12.29 it’s no more expensive than your run of the mill brands that contain chemicals. It’s great for children, too!

The Autoship Form – Save Money!

Nature’s Sunshine have made some changes to the prices of some of their products – and they’ve not all been increased.

Some of them have actually come down in price. But if you find that your usual products have gone up in price then you could choose the option of completing an Autoship Form. This means that NSP will guarantee pre-June prices for 12 months. For example, I intend ordering two SynerProteins and one LoClo on an Autoship Form. The money is debited from my bank account automatically and I can choose which day I want my order to be processed each month. In one year I would be saving £29.04! So it really is worth thinking about. But hurry, this offer ends on Friday 30 June 2000.

Key System Products

This month we’re going to find out all about the Respiratory System and the Key Product ALJ. With summer fast approaching and hot, sunny weather – I hope! – many people, including children, will be suffering with hay fever. It’s also a worrying fact that these days more and more people, again including children, now have asthma. So let’s try and find out why and how we may be able to help these people the natural way.

The Respiratory Process

The lungs are the centre of the respiratory system with the nose, throat and trachea, or windpipe, comprising the respiratory tract. The lungs are paired organs that each have airways called bronchi that are themselves divided into much smaller airways called bronchioles. Each bronchiole ends in a cluster of tiny air sacs called alveoli and there are approximately 300 million alveoli in the lungs. Respiration isn’t simply breathing. It also describes all the processes linked with the release of energy in the body. The blood carries food and oxygen to the cells in order to produce energy for their needs.

The respiratory tract is especially vulnerable to particles floating in the air – pollution, pollen, bacteria etc. The cough and the sneeze reflexes normally keep the passageways of the lungs clear of foreign matter. But not all particles are trapped here. There are also cells in the respiratory tract specially designed to rid the body of foreign particles that irritate the tissues, causing them to swell and become inflamed, even producing extra mucus. This leads to obstruction of the passageways and may result in bronchitis or asthma. Since oxygen is so vital to the energy needs of the body, it is essential that we maintain healthy lungs by breathing unpolluted air (easier said than done!) and by supplying the body with good nutrition.

ALJ – the answer to our breathing problems?

ALJ has proved to be an excellent respiratory formula for relieving sinus and upper respiratory congestion. It contains herbs that stimulate production of mucosal fluids to remove allergens and other toxins, increases circulation, soothes inflamed tissues, enhances lymphatic function, acts as an antiseptic against infection, and improves digestion thereby reducing allergies and respiratory problems resulting from poor digestion.

ALJ is recommended for a number of uses including allergies, asthma, bronchitis, earaches, hay fever, respiratory tract infection, sinus congestion, and many more. The herbs contained in ALJ are:

Boneset – to stimulate the production of mucosal fluids to remove allergens and toxins; acts as an antiseptic and expectorant to relieve bronchial congestion. Fennel – mainly to increase the production of digestive fluids and to reduce inflammation. Fenugreek – loosens phlegm and helps stop chronic coughs. Horseradish – a strong digestive stimulant, increases circulation and acts as an antiseptic, diuretic and expectorant. Mullein – provides soothing relief to the lungs and throat.

If you’d like more information on ALJ then a more detailed fact sheet is available on request.

Your Letters

Many thanks for your letters and testimonials. Here are two of them. Please keep sending them to me!

Around menstruation I used to have difficulty focussing my mind, concentrating for long periods, and making decisions. Since taking Gotu Kola I have noticed a real difference! My mind is now sharper and more focussed, and life is a little easier when it comes to decision-making. Thank you for telling me about this brilliant product.

Angela Townsend, Hassocks

Since my hysterectomy operation in October 1998 I have been taking C-X, Wild Yam and Mastergland to control the hot flushes, night sweats and mood swings that are all symptoms of the menopause. At a recent NSP Conference

Dr Alvin Segelman recommended Flash-Ease, which is only currently available on the USA Special. But there are plans to introduce this product onto the UK list.

I have been taking Flash-Ease (the Americans call them hot flashes not flushes!) along with Mastergland for a month and it is a very effective product. You just need one time-release tablet in the morning and one in the evening and they control all the menopausal symptoms. It’s certainly better than taking six capsules of C-X and six of Wild Yam daily, although they are just as effective. The Flash-Ease is just another option.
