Issue 2

   December 2001

Continuing with the series of Nature’s Sunshine Herb Specialist Bulletins, this month I have decided to cover the Nervous System. With Christmas fast approaching and panic already setting in – have I bought enough presents? when will I have time to write all those cards? - nerves may be a little frazzled so it’s the ideal time to think about protecting and strengthening our nervous system. The enclosed flowchart will make it easy for you to identify the symptom or symptoms and then find the most suitable supplement. And don’t forget the products under Nutritional Support and, of course, the very powerful Key System product, which has been specially formulated to support the system.

I hope you found October’s Herb Specialist Bulletin interesting and you took my advice and a bottle of Ultimate Echinacea is already in your fridge! I don’t know about you but I’ll probably end up eating and drinking too much over Christmas, so I’ve already ordered a Chinese Cleanse to detox my body straight after the Christmas and New Year celebrations. This is a good time to do this simple 10-day herbal cleanse, so if you’d like more information on it, please ask for a fact sheet and I’ll send one in the post.

Just to remind you if you haven’t already returned your Account Renewal Form there’s still time to do so. As long as Nature’s Sunshine receives your signed form before the end of December your account will remain active. Otherwise, your account will be closed and you will no longer be able to order. So, to continue to receive my Newsletters and Herb Specialist Bulletins just send in your Renewal Form this month. If you’ve mislaid it, call Nature’s Sunshine on 01952 671600 and they’ll send you another form straightaway.

Unfortunately, the National Meeting in January 2002 has been postponed until later in the year. But the good news is, Peter Klein, the Herbalist, who many of us know and admire will be coming to Chelsfield Golf Club more often in 2002 to share with us his vast knowledge of herbs and to give us the opportunity to meet him in person and ask lots of health questions! I’ll keep you posted on the dates. That’s all for 2001, so may I wish you a Merry Xmas and a happy and healthy 2002.

Health problems related to the nervous system include: -

·         stress

·         insomnia

·         depression

·         headaches

·         multiple sclerosis

Nervous System Products

Here is a summary of the products you will find on your flowchart starting with the Key System Product, which is the main product for supporting and strengthening the nervous system. For specific ailments, you could try the other suggested products as indicated on your flowchart. And don’t forget the nutritional support products, which will fill any gaps you may have in your diet - SynerProtein, or energy drink, is a complete protein drink which is yeast-free, dairy-free, wheat-free, gluten-free and GM-free! The Synerpro Multivitamins and Minerals will replace those important vitamins and minerals that are lacking in our food today.

Nutri-Calm – This combination of herbs and essential B-complex vitamins nourishes the nerves to help the body cope with stress. Nervous System Products (cont’d).

Also found under this heading is Kava Kava. A Polynesian relative of the pepper plant, kava kava has long been used as a ceremonial beverage. It contains kava lactones that have been shown to relax muscle spasms and induce a feeling of well-being. In our stress-filled Western society, this traditional herb is becoming increasingly popular for its ability to promote relaxation and to help with panic attacks. Stock No: 405  Price: £14.95

Returning to your flowchart the next heading is Mind/Memory/Aging with the general indications as:

·         Poor memory or concentration

·         Learning problems

·         Falling asleep while sitting

·         Risk of degenerative diseases of the nervous system

The products suggested to help with these conditions are:

Brain Protex with Huperzine – This product aids the brain in two ways. First, it utilises three powerful antioxidants that cross the blood-brain barrier to protect cells from free-radical damage. Second, it feeds this vital organ with the specialised ‘brain food’ nutrients of ginkgo biloba, phosphatidyl serine and huperzine. Protect your brain from the inside out!      Stock No: 3114  Price: £19.65

Ginkgo Biloba (Timed-Release) – The ginkgo tree, otherwise known as the maidenhead tree, is a living fossil, a deciduous tree that belongs to the same family as pine and spruce trees. It is also an example of a plant whose healthful properties were discovered by modern science, not by tradition. European researchers learned that the leaves contained a flavonoid complex that benefited cerebral function by improving circulation to the brain. It has also been shown to nutritionally support the brain in other beneficial ways and to help counter the effects of aging.  Stock No: 898  Price: £10.95

The third category in the nervous system is Depression and includes the following general indications:

·         Change in appetite

·         Feeling blue

·         Insomnia or excessive sleeping

·         Medical diagnosis of mild to moderate depression

·         Fatigue

AD-C – AD stands for anti-depressant and is a combination of 18 Chinese herbs that have nervine, sedative and stimulant properties. These herbs help build and strengthen the liver, stimulate circulation and improve ‘sagging’ feelings. AD-C helps with tension, depression and other nervous disorders. This product is not addictive.                                                  Stock No: 1878  Price: £11.85

St John’s Wort – This popular herb has gained national attention for its ability to alleviate mild to moderate depression. It contains an active constituent, hypercin that appears to prolong the activity of the neurotransmitter, serotonin, in the brain. St John’s Wort may also lengthen the performance of dopamine and norepinephrine, two chemicals that are linked to depression. In Europe, many doctors prescribe this herb instead of prescription antidepressant drugs. Several clinical studies demonstrate the herb’s efficacy as an antidepressant.                                                          Stock No: 655  Price: £14.45

If you would like information on stress management, would like to discuss any of the above conditions or would like to have more detailed fact sheets on any of these products, then please call me on 01689 856581.

I have found Nutri-Calm to be an excellent product especially as I have a very busy lifestyle – working full-time, studying to be a nutritional therapist, giving talks and providing advice on various health issues. But I love it – especially being able to help people recover their health. Here are some testimonials from people who have needed support for the nervous system and have found the answer in Nature’s Sunshine products.

Nervous System Testimonials

Anxiety Attacks

I had been suffering from anxiety attacks for five years and after a particularly traumatic first birth I was left extremely low. When my son James was ten months old in sheer desperation I contacted someone who I knew was very much involved with Nature’s Sunshine. She advised taking SynerProtein, the nutritional drink, and Nutri-Calm.

We’ve just celebrated James’ first birthday and I’m a different person. Friends and family soon commented on how well I looked so of course I started to recommend the products to other people. I am constantly surprised how easy it is because the products sell themselves – I am, after all, a walking advert! Thank you Nature’s Sunshine.

Stress

I am a lecturer and as you can imagine it can be stressful from time to time, and especially during exam time. I have found Nutri-Calm marvellous and indeed my last exam papers took me about a quarter of the time they normally do to mark. Excellent product!

Palpitations

My friend Julie was in a state of anxiety one day, suffering palpitations and pains in the neck. I made up some Syner-Protein and with it she took Nutri-Calm and Eight. Within a very short time Julie felt great.
