February 2000

This winter has been pretty bad with regard to nasty viruses all around us. Unfortunately, not many people managed to escape the ‘flu’, with symptoms including sore throats, aches and pains, and various different types of coughs that seemed to last for ever! That almost magical date of 2000 will inspire us to adopt new, healthier eating habits. We all have the power to take control of our own body, as long as we put our minds to it. With spring fast approaching we can look forward to kinder weather and better health – the natural way!

The National Meeting in January was superb with Dr Hilary Jones giving an excellent speech yet again. If you missed him this time, you’ll be given another chance – Nature’s Sunshine is inviting him back pretty soon to another of the National Meetings later in the year.

On Sunday 20 February Peter Klein, herbalist extraordinaire (he’s also a Naturopath, Iridologist, Reflexologist, and Kinesiologist!), is holding a Health Workshop at the Poste House Hotel in Coventry. The day will be full of interesting information on herbs and natural health, and at the end of the workshop you’ll receive a Certificate of Attendance. I’m definitely going and I’ve got two spare places in my car, so if you’re interested in joining us then please call me rightaway on 01443 223948. It promises to be a brilliant day.

The Truth About Essential Fats

It has been drummed into us that the way to lose weight is by cutting out fat from our diet. Many people aim for a low if not fat-free diet. However, there are fats that are essential to keep us fit and healthy. Eating the right kind of fat is, in fact, absolutely vital for optimal health. The essential fats are Omega 3 (found in fish oil and flaxseed) and Omega 6 (found in seeds such as pumpkin, sunflower and sesame).  Essential fats reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, allergies, arthritis, eczema, depression, fatigue, PMS and many more. Omega 3 fats help to reduce or even eliminate such allergic diseases as migraines and asthma.

The average Western diet has at least ten times more Omega 6 than Omega 3 so the modern diet is likely to be more deficient in Omega 3. A good quick test of whether you have enough essential fats is to look at the condition of your skin. You are getting enough of the right fats if your skin is soft and velvety and no longer needs moisturiser. Other deficiency signs are water retention, high blood pressure, difficulty in losing weight, a decline in memory and learning abilities, and inflammatory health problems such as arthritis.

People have been taking cod liver oil for years in the belief that it would help with such conditions as arthritis. A recent report in Nutritional Therapy Today has now revealed that cod liver oil and other fish oils sold in the High Street have detectable levels of toxic chemicals. I have enclosed a copy of the article so that you may read it.

At Nature’s Sunshine we provide a clean source of Omega 3 fish oils and Flaxseed oil. You can rest assured that they do not contain any toxic chemicals because of the rigorous testing carried out on every product. Nature’s Sunshine products do not contain any chemicals, pesticides or preservatives in any form. If you think you may have a deficiency in essential oils then why not try our Omega 3 EPA or Flaxseed Oil capsules.

Your Letters

Many thanks for your letters and testimonials! Here are a just a few of them, but please keep sending them to me together with any questions or comments you may have.

I had been interested in nutritional supplements for some time. I had no real health problems so I initially took a purely preventive line of action when I was introduced to Nature’s Sunshine Products. I took Calcium Magnesium to prevent the dreaded Osteoporosis, Multi Vitamins and Minerals, and Vitamin C and High Potency Garlic for my rather suspect immune system.  I then added Nutri-Calm to this combination as I was under pressure at work and was rushing around like a headless chicken, achieving nothing. The Nutri-Calm worked a treat. They allowed me to deal with my work methodically and without that trace of panic which had been creeping in. Even my colleagues commented on the change in me. The recommended daily dosage is three tablets a day – I have to confess that I sometimes took four if the need arose. Now, however, with rare exception, I only take a maximum of two a day and certainly no more than one at weekends.

It’s hard to explain what they do exactly – they just work! If you know anyone who has problems with stress, anxiety or tension, then get them to give Nutri-Calm a go!

Carole Parsons, Hertfordshire

A lady I know, aged sixty-three, started taking Nature’s Sunshine products because she was going up the stairs on her hands and knees as her arthritis was so bad. She was fed up with having cortisone injections that were doing absolutely nothing for her.

After one month on ART-A, Calcium Magnesium, Butchers Broom and Omega 3 EPA she was once again taking her dog for walks. Recently she has started taking Glucosamine for her back and has been able to stand up straight for the first time in years! She also uses Tei Fu Massage Oil on her knees.

New Products…New Products…New Products.

At last month’s National Meeting three products were launched, all new to the UK.

·        Chinese Para-Cleanse is a 10-day cleanse particularly designed to get rid of all those horrible parasites from the body. If you missed the autumn edition of Horizons magazine then let me know – you’ll love the parasite picture gallery!

·        COQ10 Plus, otherwise known as Coenzyme Q10, is vital for cellular energy production. It has been shown to be effective for treating many conditions including ageing, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, angina and multiple sclerosis.

·        Morinda, traditionally considered as a body tonic, is now available in liquid form. It has been used for a variety of health concerns too numerous to mention here. That’s why I have enclosed a sheet detailing all three new products. Please try and find the time to read it as I’m sure you’ll find the information fascinating.
