Every month I try to bring you the latest information on
natural health together with tips on diet and supplements that will help to
alleviate any health problem you might have. In my monthly newsletter I
always promote products formulated by the company Nature’s Sunshine. There
are many other companies to choose from so why do I recommend Nature’s
Sunshine? Quality sets Nature’s Sunshine apart
where only the finest quality herbs and raw materials are selected. The
company’s global sourcing of raw materials ensures that only the highest
quality ingredients are chosen. Research and development – for over 30 years the
products have been formulated by a dedicated research team of experts
including botanists, biologists, nutritionists, pharmacists, pharmacologists
and pharmacognosists. Integrity – even though substandard
ingredients are more readily available, Nature’s Sunshine only use the very
best. They provide quality products that enhance people’s health and
wellbeing and many testimonials have been written in support of the excellent
products that actually work. Pure and natural – Nature’s Sunshine uses over
300 testing procedures to guarantee purity and potency and to ensure the
absence of pesticides, herbicides and chemicals. One of the tests is Thin
Layer Chromatography, which allows Nature’s Sunshine to identify the
individual herbs and determine their quality. Correct Plant Part needs to be used for a
supplement to be effective. Nature’s Sunshine harvests the herbs at the right
time of year and also tests for the active ingredients. Ginseng for example
is most potent when harvested in Autumn. Natural or synthetic. Some companies do not
have the technology to test for active ingredients or even to differentiate
between synthetic and natural ingredients. Many ingredients in supplements on
the market today are synthetic and do not contain all of the active
ingredients found in naturally sourced health products. Natural products are
more effectively assimilated in the body. Nature’s Sunshine use only natural
ingredients. Why Are So Many People
Unwell? In today’s environment our bodies
are under constant attack, the likes of which we have never experienced in
the past. There are toxic substances in the air we breathe, the water we
drink, the medications we take and even in the food we eat. Put simply, in
the past 60 years we have been exposed to more pollutants and toxins than any
previous generation in recorded history. The potential consequences of this
for our health simply do not bear thinking about. Our bodies just aren’t
built to stand it. That is why many people age prematurely and why large
numbers in the developed world continue to suffer from various ailments into
their old age. But fortunately, there are some things we can all do right
away to start protecting ourselves against this attack. By changing your diet
to include more fresh vegetables and fruit you will feel better both
physically and mentally. Identify any food allergies you may have such as
intolerances to wheat, dairy or caffeine. Cut out these foods for a week and
see if you feel any different. You could be very surprised at the result.
Supplement your diet with vitamins and minerals to ensure you have a full
range of essential nutrients. You may need specific nutrients or herbs which
can be identified by completing the Lifestyle Analysis online,
available at my website www.optimumhealth.co.uk.
PRESS
RELEASE 1 September 2006 Pharmacies unite in ‘Food and Mood’ campaign Sixty-one pharmacies in South East London will spend next
month promoting the benefits of eating good mood food as a complementary
self-help approach for symptoms such as depression, anxiety and fatigue.
During October, customers in Southwark pharmacies will be encouraged to
engage with in-store displays and discover simple strategies for eating that
may help improve their mental and emotional health and wellbeing. “Patients who have been prescribed medication can feel
there is little they can do for themselves other than to take their pills.
This campaign aims to remind patients that good food is also powerful
medicine, and choosing to eat well is an important step towards body-mind
health and wellbeing,” says Rosie MacQueen, Health Improvement Programme
Manager at Southwark PCT. Topics covered will include drinking more water, reducing
caffeine, the benefits of eating breakfast, selecting ‘slow-burn’
carbohydrates, and eating fish to ‘oil your thinking’. “Mind and body are not
separate so foods that are good for physical health are beneficial to mental
health as well. By learning how food can affect mood, people can benefit by
becoming more aware of their mental and emotional health generally,” says
Rosie MacQueen. |

Important Information for Athletes, Cyclists and Gym
Enthusiasts
You often see people
jogging along the streets, cycling to work or at weekends or working out in
the gyms. These people consider themselves to be fit. Many of them are. But
are they healthy? You occasionally hear of an
athlete or a fit person suddenly dropping dead or having a heart attack. “But
he/she was so fit!” you hear people say. I know that many of the professional
fitness organizations promote the use of supplements to ensure optimal
health. While exercise is good for
you, it does put increased pressure on the heart, joints and nervous system
as well as producing more free radicals that need to be quenched by
antioxidants. Here are my supplement suggestions for a fit and healthy life. Multi Vitamin and Mineral – a high-potency multiple vitamin and mineral
formula is essential as many nutrients are lost during exercise. Mega
Chel is a mega-nutrient supplement containing vitamins,
minerals, antioxidants and herbs designed to improve circulation, help clear
arteries, reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and provide essential
nutrients for joint and bone health. – Stock no 1821. Consider
taking the Antioxidant Arsenal, which contains the vitamins A, C and E
together with the minerals Zinc and Selenium, as these are powerful
antioxidants, which reduce free radical damage and boost your immune system. Stock
no 4033. Glucosamine occurs naturally in the body to
stimulate the production of connective tissue in the joints. Production of
glucosamine slows with age leaving cartilage unable to retain water and
function as a shock absorber. Studies show that glucosamine
supplementation improves joint mobility and helps the growth of new
cartilage. Most glucosamine supplements use glucosamine sulphate.
Nature’s Sunshine uses glucosamine hydrochloride as it has a 99% purity
compared to only 74% in glucosamine sulphate and the level of activity is 50%
more. Stock no 932 Omega-3
fish oil capsules - these ‘good’ fats are essential for joint and
heart health. - Stock no 1609. Folic
Acid Plus – A lack of folic acid has been linked to heart attacks
and angina. Each tablet contains 400mcg of folic acid, 120mg of Vitamin C and
Bee Pollen. - Stock no 1585 CoQ10 has been shown to be clinically
effective for coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, high blood pressure and
particularly congestive heart failure. Research has consistently shown a
strong correlation between the severity of heart failure and low levels of
CoQ10. Unfortunately, your body’s production of CoQ10 begins to decline
around age twenty, often leaving you seriously deficient by middle age. Stock no 1796. |
Product Update Due to
the change in legislation, Nature’s Sunshine recently had to reformulate some
of their products in line with EU requirements. Many products have been
renamed, as they were no longer allowed to use names that related to specific
health issues, e.g. Mood Elevator is now called Perilla & Cyperus
Combination. At the National
Meeting on 10 September Nature’s Sunshine will launch the newly
revised and updated ‘Product Guide’. It will contain an improved
family health section, advice on detoxing, recommendations for daily
supplementation, weight management, skin and hair nutrition, beauty products
and aromatherapy oils. There will be a questionnaire and revised flow charts
to enable you to select the correct product for any health problem. There
will also be detailed descriptions of all the products and their new names.
You can order this brochure after 10 September. Still
available while stocks last: ·
Men’s Formula containing nutrients for
a healthy prostate. ·
Natural Changes Pack
containing nutrients for a healthy menopause. Products at 10% discount There is
still a supply of the Chinese 10-day detox and Nutricalm. You
will get a 10% discount on these products while stocks last. New formulations
will be available after 10 September. New Products Glucosamine is back
with a new formula. This helps rebuild cartilage in the joints and so
alleviates joint pain often associated with arthritis. Stock no 932. Liver
Balance is now called Peony and Cinnamon Combination and
helps to protect the liver and supports healthy liver function along with the
health of the gallbladder, spleen and stomach. The herbs work synergistically
to help prevent liver damage from drugs and environmental toxins, improve
circulation and digestion, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, relax
muscle spasms, and calm anxiety and irritability associated with liver
problems. Stock no 1860 HVP is now
called Hops and Valerian and Passion Flower and is a natural sedative
formula containing herbs that calm the body, relieve anxiety and nervousness,
and promote restful sleep. This formula does not produce the typical
’drugged’ symptoms associated with pharmaceutical sedatives. Hops and
Valerian and Passion Flower is particularly beneficial for individuals
who awake repeatedly during the night due to nervous tension or an overactive
mind. This formula may also help to reduce high blood pressure resulting from
anxiety and nervous excitability. Stock no 940. To order any of
these products– call Nature’s Sunshine Products on 08458 40 50 60 or the main telephone line on 01952 671600. |
