Well, looks like the summer is over as the weather has become much colder. But we must try and stay positive as this helps us to stay healthy. If you allow yourself to feel fed up and depressed, then your immune system suffers and you are more likely to pick up bugs and colds. The combination of a positive outlook and the right nutrients in both your diet and in supplements will ensure you maintain a good level of health.

 

Good news this week: Scientists show that herbal medicine works after researchers found that it offered 'real benefits'.  Scientists at King's College London tested a variety of herbal remedies, and found that they could help treat conditions such as diabetes and cancer.
The curry leaf tree (Murraya koenigii) was singled out for special mention as an effective treatment for diabetes.  It seems to restrict the action of the digestive enzyme pancreatic alpha-amylase, which helps break down dietary starch to glucose.

 

There have been warnings of the annual flu epidemic.  Government health agencies are wringing their hands after a major manufacturer of flu vaccines had its licence withdrawn when it revealed stocks had been contaminated.  Sadly there is little evidence that the vaccines actually offer protection and no wonder when nobody yet knows the strain of flu that may, or may not, attack the UK this winter.

Of course health officials could be telling people how to improve their nutritional status to ward off the worst effects of any flu bug, which would be a far better approach.

 

Colds and Flu

It’s always a good idea to have a supply of natural cold remedies in your cupboard at home, just to be prepared.

Ultimate Echinacea can help prevent a cold and will also reduce the symptoms very quickly.  Stock no 3181.

Echinacea/Golden Seal is a very powerful natural antibiotic to be taken at the first sign of a cold or flu. Stock no 3180.

Viruses

I always have a supply of Dandelion & Purslane Combination (VS-C™ Liquid) in my cupboard at home, which is an anti-viral remedy. I take it when people around me are coughing and sneezing especially in enclosed places such as offices and in buses or trains or on aeroplanes. It tastes good too with its cinnamon and liquorice flavour! Stock no 3167.

 

Sore throats

At the first sign of a sore throat, put one teaspoonful of Colloidal Silver in a glass of water and gargle. Swallow the liquid and in no time the sore throat disappears. Stock no 4074.
