I hope you had an excellent
Christmas break and I wish you good health and lots of happiness in 2005. So did you over-indulge over
Christmas? It’s so easy to eat too many chocolates, mince pies and slices of
Christmas cake. Then there’s the alcohol. Does all this sound too familiar?
Are your clothes feeling tight and your stomach suddenly much bigger than it
was at the beginning of December? I went out on quite a few Christmas meals
with friends during the couple of weeks before Christmas and suddenly these
extra pounds have appeared. So, it’s time to shift that extra weight and get
back into shape. The mistake some people make is
to go on a crash-course diet. This might work in the short-term but in the
longer term you’ll put the weight back on – and more! Also cutting out meals during the day
doesn’t work, as you need to keep your metabolism stable. So, what is the best plan of
action to get into shape? The first step is to start a
detox programme, as it will help to shift a few pounds and give you more
energy. I’ve already started taking the Chinese Tiao He Cleanse, which
is a 10-day detox programme to help eliminate built-up waste in the
intestinal system. It’s important to eat lots of
fresh unprocessed food, which contains nutrients essential for good health.
When our natural food is altered by processing, removal of nutrients,
chemical changes, artificial flavours and additives such as salt and sugar,
our hunger receptors become confused and our eating can get out of proportion
as we are eating empty calories. This can then result in obesity, as our
bodies want us to eat more in the search for the essential vitamins and
minerals. Join an exercise class or take
up yoga to burn off those extra calories. Do you know that you have to reduce
your calorie intake by 3000 calories just to lose one pound? Watch out for those daft diet
plans that end up making you more unhealthy. Just start by reducing
the size of your meals, as generally we all eat too much in one go. Small
changes eventually add up to a big change in your weight and health.

Boost Your Immune System This time of year many people
pick up a ‘flu or cold virus. Interestingly sugar inhibits the functions of
our immune system and increases diseases caused by poor immune function such
as colds and flu. What to do if you contract a ‘flu virus. ·
Stay at home! ·
Consume plenty of fluids, especially fresh juices,
herbal teas, soups and quality water to prevent dehydration and flush out the
body. ·
Sleep and rest as much as possible. ·
Antibiotics are useless against viral illnesses so
make sure you have Dandelion & Purslane Combination (VS-C Liquid) in your Herbal Medicine
cabinet, as this is very effective at fighting viral infections for both
adults and children. Stock no 3167. ·
Colloidal Silver is excellent at
eradicating sore throats and is anti-viral and anti-bacterial. Gargle with
Colloidal Silver in warm water at the first sign of a sore throat or cold. Stock
no 4074. ·
Strengthen your immune system with Immune
Stimulator. Stock no 1839. ·
Consider taking the Anti-Oxidant Arsenal, which
contains the vitamins A, C and E together with the minerals Zinc and
Selenium, as these are powerful antioxidants and immune boosters. Stock no
4033. ·
Zinc lozenges are very useful to keep
on hand and to take as soon as symptoms develop, such as a sore throat. Stock
no 1596. ·
At the first sign of a cough, place 15-20 drops of Echinacea/Goldenseal
herbal extract in your mouth and hold it there for 5 minutes. Repeat this
every hour for 3 or 4 hours as it stops the virus from multiplying. (Do
not take if pregnant). Stock no 3180. ·
Elderberry Defence is a
combination of elderberry, echinacea, royal jelly and olive leaf designed to
encourage a sense of wellness and to strengthen and maintain the immune
system. Stock no 868. Seasonal Affective
Disorder (SAD) Some
people become more depressed in the winter months, when the days are shorter
and darker. This type of disorder is known as seasonal affective disorder.
This is frequently linked to B vitamin deficiencies or poor eating
habits. If you
feel a bit down try taking the Mood Elevator (stock no 1878) and
a Vitamin B Complex (stock no 1773). If you
need more energy a daily glass of SynerProTein mixed with TNT
will give you a real boost. Try adding the Liquid Colloidal
Minerals to the drink to ensure you get a full range of energy promoting
minerals. Stock
nos 2914, 4300, 4037. Vitamin B Complex also
helps increase your energy levels. |
THE HRT CONTROVERSY For many
years HRT has been promoted as the Menopausal drug that reduces the risk of
Heart Disease, Alzheimer’s, Depression and Osteoporosis. This time last year
the media highlighted major studies that exposed HRT as a drug that has been
proven to increase the risk of certain cancers and disease. Just last
week the results of a new UK study revealed that HRT could increase your
chances of a stroke by one third. I know many women sing the praises
of HRT as it makes them feel better during this difficult period in their
life. You have to make up your own mind whether to take the chance of
developing a life threatening disease. Taking any drug is a risk as all drugs
have side effects and are damaging to the liver. I had a
full hysterectomy 6 years ago when my ovaries were also removed resulting in
an immediate clinical menopause. Very soon I started having the most awful
hot flushes and mood swings and generally felt extremely unwell. I had read
of the dangers of synthetic HRT so I refused to take the hormone therapy,
much to the disgust of my consultant. At that time I discovered the company,
Nature’s Sunshine, and started taking the products designed to alleviate the
symptoms of the menopause. I took the herbal combination C-X together with
Wild Yam, Vitamin E and Nutri Calm.
Within two days I was feeling so much better. The hot flushes had
virtually gone and I was no longer feeling depressed. I am very glad that I
made that choice and I still feel extremely well taking only natural
products. Nature’s
Sunshine has since developed a Natural Changes Pack specially designed
to naturally alleviate the symptoms of the menopause. Stock no 4055. The
individual items in the pack can be purchased separately, if required. The pack
contains the following: ·
C-X and Wild Yam and Chaste
Tree, which help to balance the hormones and alleviate hot flushes. ·
Nutri Calm, which is a combination of all
the B vitamins together with calming herbs such as valerian, hops
flowers and passion flowers. These help to reduce stress and
strengthen the nervous system. ·
SKL that is a combination of
calcium, magnesium, boron, potassium, zinc, horsetail herb and many other
nutrients all designed to strengthen the bones. ·
Flax Seed Oil to protect the heart,
helps to reduce cholesterol and blood pressure and lowers the risk of
strokes. Also helps to break down saturated fats and aids in weight loss. Please contact me if you want more information or a
detailed fact sheet on any of these products or order a copy of the “Guide
